Warrior at Rest

The Drawing...

Torrin stands in a relaxed stance with his hands resting together on the hilt of his sword. We don't see his face or even his whole body. The close-up format is focused in on an exploration of the details of his armor, sword hilt, belt and hands.

The Painting...

Work in progress....

Work began on this painting a while ago and I set it aside to spend more time developing Torrin's armor and sword. The drawing above was recently completed in an effort to study hands and fingers for the painting. Now to incorporate those details into the painting....

Studies & Sketches: Hands & Hilts

Increasingly I have been painting and drawing hands to improve the artwork for the books. Hands, in particular, are very complex and difficult to draw and paint well.

Below are a few examples of various sketches. Sometimes I draw my own hands, sometimes I use other photo reference I have purchased or taken myself.
